Cold war nostalgia

July 5, 2010

Seeing as we’re all nostalgic for the real cold war at the moment, when spies were spies and not well-endowed members of suburbia, a link to a video of space-based nuclear weapons tests. The multi-part reasoning behind the test is something else: nuclear fallout to obfuscate the sky, and the fascinating techno indulgence that borders on Marinetti-esque, that leads to an inquiry as to whether existing belts of atmospheric radiation might reflect artificially induced radiation onto enemy territory. Cue imagining a giant, baroque, natural and unseen space mirror. Still, the colours of the explosion are lovely.
